I am making some big changes this February. I am taking on the Engine 2 diets 28 day challenge on Valentines day. That means no meat, dairy (yes that means cheese), oils or refined sugars and low sodium. It means eating a plant based diet; a lot of veggies and whole grains.
What brought me to this diet was my brother and sister in law-they started this on January 1st and have improved their health and weight and started enjoying eating clean. I recently had a minor health scare that made me realize I needed to make some drastic lifestyle changes. No more fatty, salty foods or sweets (at least for the majority of life), it is time to change the direction of my life. The way I was eating before I was a ship whose sails were full of fast fatty food and I was on a collision course towards diabetes, heart disease, and unhealthy/unhappy life.
Why start on valentines day?? Well, what better way to show yourself love and worth than the day when millions celebrate love? Coincidence too it is the beginning of lent. While I do not practice lent I appreciate the value in it and find it an interesting coincidence with my challenge because I feel that this whole thing coming about is a God planned, God timed occurance.
Another awesome thing, I have recieved such support from those around me. My Bro and Sis are doing this, a co-worker is starting soon, all the friends I have told have been encouraging and have told me that they have faith that I can do this. My Doctor even said "I have faith that you can do this and will do it sucessfully". Wow that is a glowing endorsement! How can I fail when God is there cheering me on along with almost everyone I know--with people putitng faith in me....little (not so much) me.
I am excited to start this soon (4 days away!) and am making plans to go load up on all the things I will need to be a sucess! No excuses!
