Drink pink
After lingerie and wine, one of my hugest vices is coffee. So potent is my incessant need for it that I literally have the Starbucks Visa (yes, one exists! It rocks), and belong to two frequent buyer programs at my favorite local coffee roaster, Gorilla. (Called that because the beans are THAT strong.)
The problem with my never-ending need for caffeine is, like most addictions, the more you have, the more you need! And, thus, it goes pretty darn fast.

I grew up on Folgers coffee - it was before I became a coffeehouse snob, and what I would have on Sundays when my mom would let her way-too-young daughter imbibe, or after school at my grandma’s, when rather than give me milk and cookies, she’d slip me a dose of caffeine as we watched our soaps.
This October, Folgers will partner with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to support breast cancer research and education for underserved women with its limited edition Pink Can, which will be available in grocery stores and convenience stores nationwide. In addition to the Pink Can, consumers will be able to visit folgers.com to send a “wake up call” e-card to loved ones to make them aware of breast health and the importance of early detection.
As pink is my favorite color - breast cancer an important cause to me - and coffee, as I said, one of my favorite things, I realized this was the perfect way to kick off the next few weeks, when during the month of October, we will be doing a ton of giveaways in support of all things pink and breast cancer awareness.
Two readers will each receive one can of this special limited-edition Folgers Pink Can of coffee. To win, share where your caffeine obsession has taken you - and what awesome memories were created because of it. (Or, I suppose, terrible addiction aftermath. Whatever.) Deadline to enter is October 15. Good luck!

My caffeine obsession once made me drive through blizzard like conditions to get a cup of my favorite mocha.
My most awesome memory is waking up on weekend mornings smelling the fresh coffee aroma throughout the house when I was a child.
Thank you for the great giveaway!

My mom was the only person that could make instant coffee taste and smell good. Like your grandma, my mom would have coffee with my preteen daugher as they would watch Days of our Lives.
Caffeine is the only drug that can banish a monster headache.
September 27th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
Coffee is the only part of the meal that my wife will let me make. I am great at making it and this is for a great cause.

September 27th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
The smell of coffee makes me think of my parents. Waking up in the morning and smell that coffee smell. My dad asking me to go get him a refill. sigh! I miss them.
I once tried to use a paper towel as a coffee filter because I was out and needed my morning coffee.
Thanks for supporting breast cancer awareness.

September 27th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
i love folgers but i love the fact that they care about breast cancer even more. The cure is out there and we can all help find it.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
There’s nothing better than sitting down with visiting family after a meal, playing cards or a board game, and then having dessert with coffee. Or just coffee.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Several years of corporate event planning forced me to spend crazy hours on my feet and waking up at the butt-crack fo dawn! I traveled the country and coordinated events in many hotels and convention centers that had me up with the night cleaning crew vacuuming glitter from prom the night before in prep for our National Sales Meeting or at FedEx Kinkos reprinting the latest and greatest handouts for the thousandth time! Had it not been for Starbucks and Hotel Catering Staff preparing special cups of Joe, I never would have made it! Being up at crazy hours did provide me with many majestic sunrises thru the years!
September 27th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Wow, I love Folger’s coffe and I will look for the pink can.
September 27th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Sadly enough I don’t seem to be able to get through the day without caffeine. I have honestly tried to give it up a few times but alas that just was not pretty at all! This is a great cause by the way!

September 28th, 2008 at 8:05 am
I grew up on coffee and folgers and maxwell house. There was always a morning brew that awakened your senses when arising in the morning. I love folgers French Roast as that has both the flavors or I should say is comparable to what I grew up with.So that is the number one choice in my household. Cannot let a day go by without it.

September 28th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Am retired but during my 39 years as an RN if it hadn’t been for coffee I don’t think I would have survived. There was a joke among the nursing staff that we should take our coffee IV then we wouldn’t have to drink so much of it cold as we seldom got through a cup without someone needing something and then having it cold when we returned but we drank it anyway. My dad was a die hard Maxwell House fan but as soon as I had my own household I switched to Folgers and have used it ever since. None of this sickeningly sweet latte stuff for me. Best coffee I have found outside the home is McDonalds.
September 28th, 2008 at 11:53 am
i lost my MOM to CANCER and FOLGERS is my fav coffee and i worked the night shift if not for coffee getting through wee hours of the morning would have been almost impossible
September 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am
I moved to Florida & was doing Home Health Care. My patient poured us a cup of Folgers & asked me to sit & drink coffee with her. Usually this would be a “no no” on the job but that conversations did her so much good - it did me good too!
September 28th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
It has helped keep me awake.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
My grandma drank coffee with lots of milk, so she let the grand kids drink coffee that way at her house. Now I use less creamer, and stronger coffee, but remember Grandma’s coffee fondly.
September 28th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
My coffee obsession has driven me to buy a expresso/latte machine. Every morning, I make a special coffee drink for myself (depending on my mood), sometimes sprinkles of chocolate or brown sugar, sometimes a steaming cup of latte. I then take my delicious coffee and sit on my deck and absorb the morning. I am usually up at 5 am — I can often watch the sun rise.
These morning are the most incredible moments of my life. They are each unique and celebrated.
In the winter, I sit my sun room and celebrate the day with the same approach.
Just me, my coffee and my thoughts!
September 28th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Folgers is all we drink in our househild.

My mom’s side of the family started a tradition every Friday morning where who ever isn’t busy or working that day goes to Granny’s for breakfast and coffee. It’s a nice way to get family together to enjoy each other’s company.
September 28th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
I don’t drink coffee at home except on week-ends and it would be great to be able to make a cup or two before going to work on the weekdays.
My disabled wife of more than 38 years tries to do the cooking on week-ends and she sets the coffeepot on automatic.
Thanks for this great contest and prize!
September 28th, 2008 at 10:52 pm

I was fortunate enough to take a group to Kenya as part of my job at a zoo. While everyone else spent their time searching the Serengeti for animals, I was at the lodge sipping Kenyan coffee and figuring out how to ship some home. They returned with photos of leopards, I came home to bags of roasted beans and strong, rich memories
