Hydration for the holidays

Today in Aly-land, I am a bit parched. This may or may not have something to do with having a bit too much champagne last night - but thank god it happened at a time when I have multiple cases of of my favorite artesian water around - FIJI - which I am making great use of.

I actually first discovered how much I love this water when I was on a South Beach press trip and there was baskets of it in my hotel room. I’m not sure how legal this is, but I ended up throwing many such bottles in my baggage to take home. And then my basket was refilled! So I took more. It was immoral, but brilliant and delicious. (And it’s not like I stole those little bottles of vodka or anything! THAT would have been really wrong. At least water is a naturally occurring substance…it’s sort of like stealing air.) Plus, it made my bag REALLY heavy, which when lugging, had to help me burn extra calories. Thus, the water helped improve my health in several ways. Our love was sealed.

Now, when I’m actively on the hunt for the best holiday gift ideas to blog about, FIJI water and I have been reunited, this time through their home-delivery service. During the holiday season this year November-December FIJI Water home delivery is offering 30 percent off home delivery subscriptions ($23.25/month, $279/year). And, exclusively for SheKnows readers, you can get this discount for a whole year. (Be sure to use Promo Code: FIJISHE www.fijiwater.com)

Think about it: You give a loved one FIJI Water home delivery as a holiday gift, and not only can you rest easy, knowing they will not say, dehydrate, but they ALSO are likely to think of you with every single sip. That’s love.

Some other reasons this rocks as a holiday gift:

Weight Management

Naturally calorie-free, water can contribute to weight management. Water helps control the appetite by creating a sense of fullness. Many times when people feel hungry, their body is telling them they need to consume more water. At least eight glasses of water is recommended each day.

Healthy Skin

Another great benefit of water is that it contributes to healthy skin. Water flushes out impurities in the skin, leaving a clear, glowing complexion which makes skin look younger. Also, water helps plump up the skin cells. Moisture evaporates readily through the skin, so drinking water can prevent the skin from looking dehydrated and may be a better choice for maintaining a radiant complexion.

So, not only will your dearest think of you and not die of being perilously parched - but they will stay fit and gorgeous! It is perfect.

So perfect that we’re going to give the gift of FIJI home delivery to one of you - for an entire YEAR!

To have your chance at the prize, share the story of something you’ve EVILLY STOLEN and how it’s made your world a better place. (It’s ok if you did this when you were like five, Freud said we’re not entirely done developing our inhibitions before then. It’s not your fault. In my case, it was like, two months ago - apparently I still haven’t found mine.) Do you drink enough water? Here’s your chance to be guilted into it! Deadline October 12.

Caesars AC has the most delicious smelling shower gel and shampoo and I must admit, as embarrassing as it is, my husband stood guard while I pilfered the maids wagon.I as sooooo ashamed, but I smell really nice.

  2. Dara Nix

Any time I go to a hotel, no matter HOW long I am staying, I take ALL of the free toiletries that they have — knowing that they will be replenished the next day — so that I can take those too!

The sad thing is — I use the ones I have pilfered to take on my next trip. If I like the ones at the new hotel, I will take and use those! But even if I DON’T like the new ones as well as the ones I brought — I STILL take them (in case I don’t like the ones at the NEXT hotel). What a vicious cycle it is!!

Thank you for a GREAT giveaway!!

    FIJI ME, PLEASE!

  6. Sandy

I have evilly stolen my husbands heart- oh and crackers and extra sauce packets and napkins and straws- but not really stealing huh?

  7. Lori Williams

I stole a candy bar from the corner store when I was about 5. My parents marched me downstairs to tell the owners and apologize. I still remember my shame!

  8. Margaret Smith

I’m also guilty of taking all the shampoos and soaps while in a hotel. Even if we’re staying a number of days and don’t use it all, we put those away, so they’ll leave some more out.
Thanks so much for this giveaway. What a wonderful prize!

  9. Jennifer Barnett

I have taken extra napkins at fast food places when I was out at home… silly, huh?

  10. Cheryl Larimer

I take the shampoos and soaps from the hotels. I thought I would make spa baskets for the granddaughters at Christmas. Turns out they are all tom boys so I brought to a local womens shelter. They were so thrilled to get that huge bag full and it motivated me to donate more things to them.

  11. Tracy Iglesias

WOW what is it about hotels that inspire the evil thief that lies dormant within us to take over? I too am guilty of hotel extras! Those travel size shampoos are perfect for days the beach or pool!

  12. Tina

My friends thought it was funny to load my purse up for me one night when we were out. I didn’t notice until I was at home looking for my keys that I had taken home the salt, pepper, several napkins, a menu, and a FULL BOTTLE OF KETCHUP!

  13. Susan Burch

I can’t remember stealing anything, but I want the free water! Thanks!

  14. marilyn

I have yet to steal anything but when and if I do,I know who to share the story (and the goods) with (psst..thats you Aly)!

  15. trish

I can’t think of anything I “EVILLY STOLEN”. I am guilty of taking all of the complimentary shampoos and such from hotels but they expect you to take them. If I think of something, I’ll be back. Oh and I don’t drink enough water.

  16. Iluvsatinpanties

When I was in high school a good friend of mine was very wealthy and had tons of clothes. There was a pair of panties that I found her VERY attractive in and they were beautiful. One day when I was at her house and she was in the shower I looked through her drawer and saw them, I know it was wrong but I snatched them up and put them in my pocket. I probably wore them dozens of times and every time I did I thought of her. I think this is what started my lingerie fetish and made my world a better place. I do not drink enough water, sometimes 2 bottles a day but need to lay off the soda.

  17. Kathy Scott

As a kid, I stole gum. I got home and felt so guilty that I threw it away.

  18. addrienne

when i was 4 we lived in a VW beetle. my mom uncle and 2 sisters. we were destitute. well we would stop at gas stations to use the toilet, and i would get extra paper for the car, just in case, and i came running out of the bathroom yelling “I got it!” waiving it over my head…hehe i got scolded for having a big mouth. ah the good old days!

  19. Catherine KingChuparkoff

I never stole anything…only picked up money off the ground if given permission…as for the Fiji Water giveaway…it rocks!

Here in Louisiana I buy a lot of bottle water and I love FIJI water

  25. Kate

When I was 5 instead of being the thief I talked my friend into stuffing her arm up the vending machine to try to grab the candy. Her arm got stuck and it was a HUGE brouhaha to get it out (angry Mom’s, police, firemen, onlookers, etc…) It taught me at an early age that the life of crime was not for me (and also not to talk my friends into doing something I wouldn’t do)

  26. Vicki Andrew

We had FIJI at a film festival I worked at and after it was over I got to take home 4 cases, great water

  27. Adrienne Gordon

I stole my husband from another woman :)

  28. Crystal F

The only time I’ve ever stolen something was when I was 6 and my grandma and mom talked me into it. They told me to take this toy ring from Revco. I still feel guilty about this. lol Thank you!!

  29. Linda Sturgeon

I had my heart stollen when I had my first child.

  30. Susan Alles

When I was pregnant with my first child, my husband (who was a student) and I had absolutely no money. The public library that was close enough to walk to, thank god, kept toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc in a utility closet in the women’s bathroom.I went to the library ALOT and we always had toilet paper! And I love Fiji water!

  31. Dawn Yates

I took the toiletries when I went on business trips - they put us up at such great places and the places used high end soaps, shampoos, etc. Thanks for the giveaway!

  32. Virginia Briguglio

Many years ago my husband (then boyfriend) and I went to a Dude Ranch with some friends. The housekeeper would not give us more than 1 towel each and since it was mid August and we were doing many outdoors things we really needed them. We discovered that the linen closet’s hinges were on the outside of the door, so we took them off and took all the towels they had. It worked out great since no one we knew had to purchase towels for years

  33. Elizabeth M.

Ok, I admit that I’ve taken a few more taco sauce packets than I’ve needed from a certain taco restaurant so that I would have some at home when I make my own. I would buy it from the store, mind you, but they don’t sell that particular heat strength.

  34. beth shepherd

Thank you for having this. I have to admit I love McDonald’s straws. They are large and I cant find them at stores. So when I make milkshakes at home their straws are the best to use! So unfortunately every time I go to McDonald’s in the summer months I pick up 1 or 2 extra straws. Yes, I am guilty but dang those milkshakes are delicious! :) I currently dont drink enough water but am trying to do better. Thank you!

  35. Kirsten

I just went on a cruise and every day I took all the toiletries and packed them. I saved them all to give to my girls when I got home. They love that.

  36. Saundra

Once, my best friend Melissa and I were out for pizza. They gave us our pizza with, of course, the little triangle-shaped pizza server to dish out the yummy slices. Well, Melissa and I thought it would be a grand idea to throw that in the box with the extra pizza. She felt so guilty the next day, I literally had to talk her out of taking it back. That was years ago and she still talks about it. But it did, however, brighten up life for my mother because it is in her possession and she LOVES it. She always thanks Melissa and I for being little thieves. Now how is that for parents teaching morals? Hahaha.

Oh, and yes…I am still alive. :) I MISS YOU! I will e-mail soon. <3

  37. sally wess

whenever I go to a hotel, I take the free toiletries that they have —every day

  38. Dddiva

When we were really young my neighbor babysat us and my brother’s friend wanted to get a pack of Kool-Aid and they couldn’t get it so shoved me through a window or something??? don’t remember at this point- to take 11 cents out of the change jar.
The neighbor saw us and told mom and she sent me to bed while it was still light out to think about the evils of my ways and I never have been slightly tempted to steal anything again.

  39. Crystal F

I do not drink enough water. I may drink a glass or two a week. Bad girl I know. Thank you!

I worked for a company that was placed in to a court ordered liquidation. I’m not sure if it was considered ’stealing’, but when the company closed and the liquidators were cleaning out our office, my associates and I grabbed what ever we could fit in our cars. =) Hey, it was going to the trash anyway. We got everything from trash cans (and bags…lol), pens, staplers, shelving, filing supplies, and a ton of binders (do you know how much those cost today?). We considered it our way of recycling…though retirement would have been better…

  107. jennefer sweitzer

My sister had this recipe for potaotes , she was pretty good at making and she wouldn’t give me the recipe, so one day when she wasn’t home, I went over to her house and stole the recipe and I made a copy, I now make the recipe and it is better than hers. I was jealous because other classmates had them, but we were relatively poor and I never had money, toys, or books. Then my classmate had a birthday, and I would have been empty handed and embarrassed, but I wrapped up several of the latest ones and at least didn’t feel bad going to her birthday party. When I was 8 I could not stand the idea of throwing away your Christmas tree. So just after dark I snuck out with 2 friends and a wagon. We “stole” about 25 “thrown out” Christmas trees and built a forest of Christmas trees hidden away from adults prying eyes. They stayed silently swaying in the wind for several weeks, dropping their needles, until they were discovered and we were punished for causing a fire hazard!

I don’t know why they don’t include them (they should). Thanks for the contest. I have nasty tasting well water. Yuck! I spend a fortune on water at the stores. This would be a really great win for me.

I love fiji water!!! This would save me soo much money!

  195. dmgcats

I truly believe we were meant to take the hotel ‘freebies’ - this is advertising - but I have a not-so-secret pleasure when I take the hotel pens - I’ll even stop at the front desk and ask for more!

If I have learned anything about nutrition - it is that water is the healthiest freebie you could want.

  196. Jennifer Jozwiak

I’m expecting and am drinking water like crazy so this would be a godsend to win!

  203. Marie N

I remember stealing a Hershey bar when I was in elementary school. Can’t remember how old I was but I remember I took it because I wasn’t allowed to eat chocolate because of my allergies. Wow did I get in trouble when my parents found out as I lay there in the emergency room telling the doctor what I had done…that candy bar cost me a day in the hospital and the loss of my parent’s trust for a very long time.

  204. PAMELA TAYLOR

    My daughter the thumb-sucker
always had her blanket with her. Shopping one day, we left home without it. I grabbed one off the shelf just to keep her content & only planned to use it while in the store. Later loading her in the car, I realized I still had it. Oh well, she was a least quiet & happy on the drive home.

  211. Terri D

When I was 10 or 11, I would go to the grocery store with my girlfriend who would always take a grape and pop it in her mouth. I thought that was a terrible thing to do at the time, but after a few store visits with her, I looked around to make sure no one was watching and quickly grabbed a grape, popped it in my mouth and felt terrible for weeks.

  212. Tara Hill

I stole a skirt and some shoes from my sister once…and it got me a date! I don’t feel bad at all, although I will still deny it to this day!

  213. Valerie

I stole a quarter machine toy that was in a clothing bin at discount store when I was 4. It was probably worth a dime, if that! My mother actually took me back to the store to return it. I never forgot and never took anything again.

  221. Michelle Simons

I was guilty of stealing my neighbors tin cans he would use on the porch as a astray. He was a old man and i always felt bad that he didn’t have a real astray so I would make him nice ones out of clay and put them on his porch. But he would come knocking at my door just a yelling that he didn’t want my clay astrays and leave his cans alone.
Yes I love to drink water everyday. I haven’t really drank bottle water to much.

  222. Mason

    I love Fiji water!!

  223. Linda T

I too, always took all of the toiletries at the hotel. I have stopped since I recently read that unless you actually used the item that correct etiquette dictates to leave them there.

  224. SS

My whole family loves Fiji water, but unfortuntely it is too expensive for me to drink everyday. This will be a great x-mas gift, something that we are actually going to use!! ;)

  225. Frank Saba

Water is life and we love to live! Count us in for Fuji for life.

  232. Annemarie

I did steal a peach from a store when I was around 12 years old. I was really hungry and had a headache. I felt better after I ate the peach, but I felt bad about stealing.

I do not drink enough water and would love to have this.

  233. Kat

I stole my boyfriend’s heart - does that count?

  234. Melissa

I went to Catholic school and when I was in first grade, we were allowed to get a prize out of the ‘treasure chest’ when we were good. There were trinkets like pencils, cool erasers, fake jewelry, etc. I saw two Holy Cards in there and couldn’t decide which one to choose, so I took both of them. I thought for sure I was going straight to hell (Catholic guilt) and still feel badly about it 20+ years later that I never put one of them back.

  235. Pamela

I always take the hotel shampoo and whatever else is there. It’s great for camping!

  236. Adhab Al-Farhan

  238. Erica

I brought home refuge from Padre Island Texas that washed up after Hurricane Ike - it’s other people’s belongings from the Galveston area, so technically not mine. But - the only way to clean the beach of all the debris is so pick it up and take it home or at least take it to a proper dumpster.

  239. Brooke Allen

    I’ve taken a book before.

  240. D Johnson

    Sweet

  241. Paula Klug

  242. Sam

Well this technically isn’t stealing, but I know you really aren’t supposed to do it. But, when I go to buffets I always bring ziplock bags with me so I can take tons of food home. This makes my world a better place, because then I have plenty of free delicious food for dinner!

I guess the closest I come to stealing is taking extra napkins to keep in the glove box of the car. Evil, I know! It makes my world a better place because I always have a napkin when I need it! I don’t know why I just don’t take them from home. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  253. Cindy

I used to eat grapes out of a grape bunch in the grocery store. My Aunt said it was OK because we where paying for them.

Years later I realized we paid by weight. so the ones i used to eat never got paid for as they didn’t get weighed.

I HATE my well water–it’s gross and leaves red stains in my toilet bowl. Anything that leaves stains in your toilet bowl can’t be good for you. This is why a year of FIJI water would be WONDERFUL!

  274. sheila k.

At age 6 I accompanied my mom on a grocery shopping trip, and sneaked away on a little adventure of my own while she shopped for veggies. I noticed a can of bandaids, the cute ones with colors and cute prints on them, had fallen from the shelf and many of the bandaids were spilled on the floor. Knowing they couldn’t sell the wrapped bandaids that were on the floor, I put them in my pocket. Then I used them on my boo-boos and my little brother’s boo-boos until they were all used up. Can’t remember what I told my mom about how I got them. I just remember they felt special.

Love Fiji Water. It is my FAVORITE.

  275. lola

  278. KATHI PENDLETON MAYS

When I was 5, I stole a Barbie hat that was out of the box. I didn’t really know it was stealing until my mom marched me back into the store and I had to apologize–how embarrassing and traumatic for a kid. It bettered my life by learning I never wanted to have live through that embarrassment again.

  284. Heather C

I know when I was younger, I would walk down the street to the convenience store and steal (and sometimes buy) comic books. I remember this, because I sure do remember my mom’s reaction when she found them. Whoops.

  285. Tracey R

When I go to hotels, I end up leaving with towels, mugs, etc. I feel that they should be complimentary because not only the fact of germs but, also the high price for the room and taxes. I pay taxes! Come on!

  286. vanessa hunter

I have evilly stolen my 2nd grade classmate’s pickle pin. I was soooo mean! I now believe in Karma because when I went to college, guess who was my roommate??!! She didn’t ask for her pin back, though. Oh, the guilt!
