Sexy is as sexy does (whatever that means)

Today has been an interesting day.

I spent the early morning hours of my day in the studio taping my segment for Wake Up to a Breakup. (And thus currently look way too glamorous to be sitting in this coffeehouse.)

Aside from breaking out my favorite new dress and getting to have my makeup done by a pro, the morning had a curious side effect - as you will see from the show when it’s online (in a few weeks), the content matter is very much about love, dating, and sex. Which sort of puts your mind in a certain place…

Plus, my segment is so tailored to my personality that you just may die. (Um, as in it’s called PINK WISDOM and the awesome makeup artist found a lip color that perfectly matched the pink in my dress.) It’s kind of like a fashionista wet dream.

Pair that with tomorrow being the release date of Sex and the City, and a girl may just be a little bit on edge!

One of the most fun parts of feeling good, and happy, and well, OK, I’ll say it…pretty damn sexy - whether on your own or with your mate - is dressing sexy. (Or at least using one as an excuse to do the other, which is my personal method of life.)

And so, it was a dangerous, dangerous time for me to be browsing lingerie sites.

I’m having major love for both OnGossamer and Carole Hochman today - especially since I can’t help but notice all the great ways that their line brings out the SATC-personality in all of us.

Examples:

Mesh OnGossamer chemise ***screams*** MIRANDA

And everyday pretty chemise: SAMANTHA

The Sunset beach Chemise (also OnGossamer) is delicately romantic and pretty…just like… CHARLOTTE

And finally, I love the Corded Rib & Lace Chemise, which of course, is in the spirit of my SATC-onality, Carrie!

And seriously, what is SATC love if not a passion of all things luxury, sexy, and fashionable?

With just about all of us having SATC fever (except my BFF, who I plan to hypnotize into submission), I am not the only one feeling just a little bit hot and bothered right now. I shall not be the only one slumbering in a cocoon of luxurious pretty underthings. By using the (EXCLUSIVE TO MY READERS!) promo code SATC, Alytude and Sheknows.com readers will 20% off any and all of their sexy bedtime shopping at both OnGossamer.com, and CaroleHochman.com, home to Midnight, a new intimates line that combines modern elegance with the new look of “vintage sexy” - and that discount will last for the entire next week (from 5 p.m. tomorrow till 5 p.m. next Friday, June 6.)

Wait till you see Carole Hochman’s new line - whether it’s hot or cold outside, trust me - it will keep you sizzling between the sheets. This line is totally luxe, channeling 1940’s boudoirs - and it shall be yours for a fraction of what all your friends are paying. (Unless you make them come here and read. As you should.)

And even MORE exciting (as if this day hasn’t been off the charts already!), four winners will each win one of the four On Gossamer SATC-love-inspiring looks above. To have your chance to win, show me your Sex and the City love…tell me your favorite episode ever, and how it effected your own life. (If you don’t watch? RESEARCH!) Deadline to enter is next Friday June 6th (as is the last day to use your exclusive discount!)

Good luck!

Episode 82, “The Catch,” keeps FOLLOWING ME. I am not a SatC watcher (sorry) however whenever one of my roomies puts on the TV there it is. Maybe this episode has some kind of a hidden message.

Maybe I am destined to have a “catastrophic” wedding day, like Charlotte. Or maybe I am going to sleep with somebody’s Best Man like Carrie. Or maybe I’ll avoid meeting an ex’s new love a la Miranda. Then again, maybe I need a reminder of what real friends do for one another. (Although I doubt it, because I like to think I’m pretty appreciative of my friends — REGARDLESS of not being a SatC-watcher!!)

Maybe I am destined to be a trapeze star! (After all, I do have my trampoline…)

  2. SEXY GRANDMA

MY LIFE IS A CARRIE MR BIG SITUATION. JUST THE OTHER NIGHT I SAW MY FAVORITE ONE & ALSO MAKES ME CRY. WHEN MR. BIG TOLD CARRIE HE IS MOVING. THE LOOK ON HER FACE
IS THE LOOK I HAVE WITH MY MR. BIG, WHENEVER HE TELLS ME HE’S GOING AWAY. SHE WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM & HE WILL ALWAYS LOVE HER BUT WILL NOT ADMIT IT, AS IN MY SITUATION. SHE CALLS HIM WHEN SHE IS LONELY, AS I DO. SHE WILL DROP EVERYTHING FOR HIM AS I DO. THE LOOKS ON THEIR FACES WHEN THEY DANCED IN THE APARTMENT IS THE LOOKS MY MR. BIG & i GIVE EACH OTHER. i WAIT FOR HIM TO CALL AS CARRIE DOES. WHEN SHE WAS WITH THE YANKEE & SHE SAW HIM HER HEART WAS BEATING A MILE A MINUTE AS MINE DOES WITH MY MR. BIG. THE OTHER DAY MY FRIENDS SAID I WAS CARRIE & MY BOYFRIEND WAS MR. BIG!!! THEY WERE RIGHT.

I have many favorite episodes, when Carrie accidently knocked out Mrs. Bigs teeth, something every girl wanted to do sometime in her life. When Harry sat barebutt on Charlotte’s couch, getting used to the man that you live with habits, isn’t easy. When Samantha went to the Gyno and discussed her sex life. I have a friend like
Sam and I found it amusing.

I love all the sex and city episoeds - but one that I could relate to was when Miranda found out that she was having a baby boy. And the Dr. is more excited than her. And when she tells Carrie - Carrie get all psyched too - when Miranda says I must be missing a gene or something to that effect, I just laughed out loud. At that time I wasn’t ready for kids either and I would constantly tell people maybe I was missing the “mom gene” because I just wouldn’t get all that excited about it. Oh I can’t wait to go see the movie!!

I have too many favourite SATC episodes, but I must admit that “The Post-It Always Sticks Twice” really hit home. When I first watched it, I, too, had recently been broken up with - not by e-mail, but SMS. Ok, so yes, we live in a modern techno-centric world, but there are just some things that are meant to be done the old-fashioned way and with dignity. Carrie’s rant to Berger’s friends just confirmed it all for me.

I love every episode, and watch at least several a week (if not more- I watched all of season 5 last weekend!). One that always stood out for me is actually the last one from that season, called “I Love a Charade.” I’ve always related most with Charlotte, and found this episode a huge turning point in her story (and taught me a lesson that I, too, needed to learn). Despite Charlotte’s endless dreaming of the perfect life that goes by the books (which I find myself doing in many aspects of my life), she finds true love unexpectedly in Harry, despite him not conforming to the fairytale she always envisioned. He had flaws that irked her, but at the end of the episode, Charlotte begins to understand that perhaps the fairytale- HER fairytale- might not be what she had thought, but it doesn’t make it any less perfect. She found exactly what she had wanted all along, and realizes the beauty in that. Miranda also finds herself surprised by her newfound appreciation for Steve’s imperfections, and Carrie understands the love between an odd couple that she initially laughed at. I guess I found this episode the most heartfelt and realistic, because life isn’t always what you expect it to be- but somehow it all works out how you wanted (and just didn’t know it). While it’s important to have dreams and goals, this episode only reinforced the idea that you aren’t settling if you find yourself happy in an unexpected situation- which is how it usually works out in life. I’ve found this myself- I found my boyfriend when I least expected it, my very best friend initially was an enemy, and I realized starving myself into a size 0 wasn’t the key to happiness. Like Carrie said, “Some people are settling down, some people are settling, and some people refuse ro settle for anything less than butterflies.” The butterflies might not be what you had expected, but what matters most is that they bring you happiness.

I have so many favorites! Maybe this is due to the fact that I can relate to the show on a number of levels, having shared conversations similar to those of the fab-four with my own gal pals. Since I am forced to pick just one, I choose the first encounter Carrie has with Aiden, Season 2, Episode 5 “No ifs, ands, or butts.”

The big theme of the episode is “what in a relationship is a non-negotiable.” I think about this constantly, whether it involves my romantic relationships or platonic ones. These non-negotiables can be as trivial as differing interests (a la Stanford’s beau’s doll collection), bad habits (e.g. Carrie’s smoking or Charlotte’s chin bruising bad kisser), or something more serious like a lack of support of your counterpart’s goals and dreams (note: Miranda DID eventually go watch Steve shoot hoops in the hopes of winning a million dollars). As I get older, my list of deal breakers becomes shorter, but more rigid. I’m willing to compromise on trivial areas, but stand firm when it comes to bad habits, not feeling supported, and lopsided reciprocity. The episode really made me think…but I have hope that, as a result, I will have more meaningful relationships.
