Beans of thought

Friends, I bring a question to your attention:

My new apt has something of a kitchenette, rather than a kitchen (it’s actually totally cute with lots of cabinets!), but has limited counter space.

In tune with that, I’m trying to decide what small appliances I “need” to have, and what I can conserve space with. I realized a French press rather than a coffee pot would save space…and actually makes better coffee! But, are they complicated to use?

Please share your wisdom! And if you are ever in the area…I’ll make you some coffee :)

You simply must get a French Press. They are AMAZING. You will never go back to drip coffee again! Mine is from IKEA: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/86134985

For $12.99 you can try it out and see how you like it and then maybe move on up to the uber-cool ones they have at Starbucks: http://www.starbucksstore.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=602807

Here’s how I make mine (just had some this morning!)

    1. Grind beans on the most coarst grind setting.

    2. Measure out about 8 tablespoons of ground coffee and place in the press

    3. Heat up some water in the microwave (I heat up 3 cups of water for about 8 min)

    4. Add the heated water to the press. Mix the grounds with the water.

    5. Place lid on press and set timer for about 8 min

    6. When timer goes off, press down the plunger slowly until it cannot be pressed anymore

    7. Pour and enjoy the best coffee you have ever tasted!!!!

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the aeropress. If you’ll be mostly doing coffee for only 1 or 2 people it might be the ticket.

I could really go for a good hot cup of java right about now.

Toaster oven. It’s a toaster. It’s an oven! Also makes Julien fries! It will not break, it will not.

    :D

Have something to add? Of course you do! So post it here:
