Specs appeal
Guys make passes at girls in glasses…
It’s true! The sexiest guys I know appreciate specs appeal, and actually find it to be a big turn-on. Some reasons girls in glasses are hot:
1 - The gift-wrapping concept: Boys like to unwrap things. Ever notice how you get extra lovin’ when you wear tops that need to be unlaced or de-wrapped? The more complicated your clothing, the more they want to get under it. Removing glasses is another level of unwrapping, and seeing ‘another side of you’ in private. This turns them on!
2 - You are smart: Perhaps it is a stereotype, but who cares. I wear reading glasses, and I choose to perpetuate it. Glasses make us appear smarter, whether you are like me, wearing rose-pink rimmed frames, or more traditional choices. Still, it works!
3 - Speaking of frames, they accent you, same way that a great manicure or blowout does. Believe it or not, men notice these details, even if we choose not to give them credit!
Truth is, if you need glasses, it’s probably not to get in some dude’s pants. (And if it is, you actually may have a problem.) Multi-tasking never hurts, though!
Of course, much as with hair cuts (or boyfriends), choosing the right pair of glasses for your face is the most important aspect of all. There’s plenty of fish…er…frames…in the sea. So, shopping around and finding your most complementing look may seem daunting, but it IS doable!
Coastal Contacts (www.coastalcontacts.com) is the world’s fastest-growing vision care supplier and is already #1 in most of its markets, selling a range of everything from contacts to glasses to much in between. They also sell some of the hottest designer looks and styles (without sticker-shock!). I love a bunch of the styles on this site, and the ease of ordering…especially when it’s *free!* The company has generously offered to award five pairs of glasses to our readers - whatever style you choose from B.Lange, Kam Dhillon, Ltede or Joseph Marc lines - customized to your prescription! (Any specs-wearer knows how insanely valuable this prize package is!)
To have your chance at winning…tell me the most terrible thing you’ve ever done to your eyes - whether cosmetic (um…if you…say….dropped liquid eyeliner directly on your eye ball)….or scary accidental (Contact get stuck? I saw that happen once!) Even if you are a victim of medical meanness…make it funny and share your story! Deadline March 25.
PS: We are not sexist! Men are welcome to enter. And, we actually think dudes have pretty damn high specs appeal as well!

OMG- I woke up one morning and could not open my eyes, they were swollen shut. My husband and I were planning a weekend trip, and me who never, ever leaves the house without mascara had to go away with swollen eyes and no makeup. Did I mention that it was a demon mascara that caused the problem.

Wow! Wowowowowow! Fantastic giveaway and the company is so amazing for offering five pairs of glasses to the readers!! I so am in need for a new style of glasses!
The most terrible thing I’ve ever done to my eyes…well, it’s quite a long story, so I hope you guys have time to read this! I decided to get contacts when I was in high school because well, I thought it would make me look better and well, when you’re a teen, you care a lot about your appearance, haha. Anyways, everything was fine, I got the contacts and the person said that my contacts were good for a month or so. Anyways, after about 2 weeks, my eyes were killing me! They were super red, itchy and well, I actually had to miss school for a couple of days because I couldn’t open up my eyes! That’s how bad it was! Thank goodness nothing was draining or anything from my eyes (like pus, ewwww). At first, I thought it was like, an allergic reaction or that I got the contacts dirty or something. Anyways, I started using my contacts less and well, a year later I went for my annual eye check-up again. My eye doctor was like “So, you got contacts, which ones?” I told him and he was like “Oh, they’re suppose to be 2 week contacts and only 2 week contacts!” So I was actually shocked because I wore those contacts for 30-40 days and well, no wonder my poor eyes were all red, itchy and scratchy! I wanted to go back to the place I got my contacts and yell at them for telling me the wrong information! So, in the end, I stopped using contacts because it was such a hassle anyways to put them in.
My eyes have been seriously through a lot. They’ve been able to allow me to stare at my computer screen for almost all day sometimes (essays, assignments for school, studying, etc!) However, I have had a lot of weird things blow into my eye!!! Last summer it was SUPER SUPER windy and well, I had no idea how this happened because I was wearing my glasses and well, this dry, little leaf got stuck in my eye. Of course, I was in the middle of a busy sidewalk downtown so I had to stop there and rub my eye! All these people were pushing me and well, I was like, half-way crying because it hurt so much! Next thing I know, this guy “accidently” pushes me over and I fell right on my butt! Ack! Also, in high school, when I had to wear my glasses AND goggles for chemistry class…well, I think this was pretty bad and pretty much my fault, but I had to clean my glasses because I couldn’t see anything. We were doing an experiment on melting temperature of a substance of something and we had set up a burner and a small flask and it was boiling pretty crazy. Anyways, my glasses/goggles were steaming up and I should’veeeeee went somewhere else to clean my glasses but I decided to do it right there! Anyways, the water actually was boiling so crazy that while I was cleaning my glasses, some of the water/liquid bounced into my left eye! And this is burning, boiling, water that we’re talking about. Of course, I was swearing in my head, but my partner noticed and dragged me to the eye wash station and I had to wash my eye out for like, half an hour! It is the WORST feeling ever, it feels like your eyeball is on fire and your eyes are watering up too and it feels like a burn. Thank goodness the flask didn’t explode or anything because it probably would’ve been glass in the eye, which I bet would hurt like heck! Anyways, my teacher made sure I was okay, and well, my eye was okay after being numbed by the cold water. Whew, it was so scary because I thought I would be blind or have to have eye surgery or something. So, it was a blur so I don’t remember the exact details, but I sure cried like a baby! BUT, it was the most memorable chemistry class ever for me…I think, haha.
Anyways, those are my stories and wow, the giveaways have left me breathless lately Aly!! You are so terrific!

wow, what a great prize!!
I’ve definitely abused my eyes a bit in the past. I’ve worn contacts for literally 15 years and became a pro at extending the life of my disposables. If they should have been replaced after a month, I wore them for two. If they were 2 week lenses, I wore them for a month.
Finally, after mucho eye irration, I visited my eye doctor (who is amazing, by the way), told him about my issues and he showed me the inside of my eyelid - which was red and hugely inflamed (hence the irritation). After a bout on prescription eye drops and a switch to daily disposable lenses, my eyes are healthy again. I’ve also been wearing my glasses a lot more, so I’d LOVE to win a new pair!

This is a FANTASTIC giveaway!! As you will soon see, I am in DIRE NEED of some new glasses.
I have been a contacts-wearer since the seventh grade (without correction, I believe I’m classified as “legally blind”). Last fall, my vision started to deteriorate. At first I just blamed it on being tired (working and going to school full-time had messed up my sleep schedule). Then, it drastically grew worse and worse, so that I could not read anything within 5 inches of my face!! I mean, it was really, really scary — and the change was rapid. The computer was impossible to read unless I got really close to it. Walking around outside was scary because I could not read street signs!
In early December I found a new eye doctor in my neighborhood, and made an appointment right away! I was sure I was going blind or had some terrible disease! The doctor started checking my vision and it was atrocious. I couldn’t even read the GIANT “E” at the top of the chart! I was getting upset, and the doctor seemed REALLY concerned. Then he examined my eyes and he could see the problem right away.
I have DRY EYES.
Yes. Dryness is what caused my loss of sight. My eyes were SO dry, my corneas were becoming damaged. In the weeks ahead I started different eyedeops that hysrated my eyes, and my sight started returning! It was amazing!
Lomng story short, I’m “stuck” in my glasses for a while, so it would be AMAZING to have a second pair to switch between!

I don’t wear glasses. I have no specs appeal.

One time, I dropped a plastic Super Glue container on the counter and it cracked open, splashing up and the glue going directly into my eye. Within just a few seconds, my eye was almost glued shut. I was trying my hardest not to close it all the way because I felt like it would be permanently shut hahaha. I went to the emergency room and they used a solution to dissolve the glue and open my eye.
My eye was bloodshot red for weeks and I had to wash it out with the solution daily because I felt like specs of glue were floating around in it.
Yikes!

I’ve been wearing glasses for a very long time (since 4th grade!)
I love to cook, and I mostly cook South Asian food, which can contain a lot of ground red pepper and spicy hot green peppers. Well, one day I added not only red pepper to the pot, but fresh green pepper as well. I neglected to wash my hands, and rubbed my eyes about a half hour later. My eyes starting BURNING!!! It took a long time for me to get tstop the burning sensation!

My best friend and I were playing basketball with some really guys I worked with. There was one I really liked named Paul, so I made sure I was chosen to guard him.
Apparently this was bad idea, because he was distracted at one point in the game and accidentally hit my glasses off my face when the ball flew past me. My glasses flew to the floor. Thankfully they weren’t broken. He didn’t even offer to pay if they were! Instead one of our other friends (the one who threw the errant ball) immediately said he’d pay if they needed repairs the second they hit the ground.

This probably should have been a story for the wine rack giveaway….
This was many moons ago…just out of college and enjoying living in the city and going to happy hour downtown with my co-workers every Friday night.
After an unusually “happy” hour, I went home, crashed fully clothed on my bed and woke up 4 hours later. Groggily, I went to the bathroom because I thought that it might be a good idea to remove my contacts before passing out again. I go to pluck them out of my eyes and OWWW! It hurt. What was going on? Great. I thought one of my lenses was stuck up in the eyelid, so I did some rubbing and tried removing it again. OUCH again! Please keep in mind that I was still quite “happy” from happy hour. Now I was getting frustrated and my eye was all red and hurting so I just gave up and went back to bed.
I wake up the next morning and everything is blurry. Why is everything blurry if I still have my contacts in from last night? I go into the bathroom and investigate. Turns out, in my inebrated state, I must have taken them out right when I got home before I passed out the first time….so when I went to “take” them out…they were ALREADY OUT and I was just plucking at my bare eyeball.
I now wear glasses exclusively.

I’m a relative new comer to your blog but I love love love it! I’ve been wearing glasses since 4th grade and thought they made me look stupid, so I hid them in my desk until my teacher discovered I wasn’t wearing them…I promptly got contacts to curb the “nerd” appeal of the 90s.
Lately I’ve been quite the chef and have started to master my skills in the kitchen. One night I was making jalapeno poppers, (sliced peppers wrapped with bacon…delicious!) and seeded the peppers with my hands. Little did I know that the “hot hotness” stays on your fingers and under your nails for quite some time. After several glasses of wine, I accidentally touched my eye to readjust my contact and burned my eye and had a slight burn to my cornea. I didn’t have a pair of backup glasses and had to immediately purchase a pair that is lacking the spec appeal. Needless to say, 10 days in glasses has made me appreciate the idea of having a pair of glasses on hand!!

An eye story: a few years ago i spent a summer working on a flower farm. Mostly a pleasure for the eyes what with the fields of sunflowers and zinnias and other delights. Except for the day I accidentally leaned into a wheat stem, poking my left eye.
An eye patch is a, ahem, ‘look’ that only a few people can pull off (Daryl Hannah in “Kill Bill”) but I was not among those few.
Thankfully my peepers are just fine now, and require just my prescription eyeglasses. I’m stoked for this giveaway, because mine could definitely use a style update!

I have a condition that causes my eyes and mouth to be very dry all the time. So three times a day I put a special eye drop in my eyes which greatly helps with this. Each and every morning I get up and one of the first things I do is put in my eye drops. Unfortunately I’m one of those people that for the first hour I can’t really claim to be awake lol. A couple years ago I got an ear infection and also each morning had to put ear drops in, bet you can guess what happened. Yep still half asleep I grabbed up my ear drops with the intent of actually putting the drop in my ear. That is what my brain was telling me to do but I am so accustomed to putting drops in my eyes first thing in the morning that my partially functioning brain did its daily chore but with ear drops instead. Soon as that drop hit my eye my brain came fully awake lol yikes it hurt like the devil. I immediately started flushing my eye and thankfully no permanent damage was caused other then a very red irritated eye for several hours. Believe me I made sure that my brain was fully awake from then on before even going near my ear drops. The pain was not nearly as bad as when I disobeyed my daddy and tried to watch him welding when I was around 6 years old but it rather reminded me of it. I really really did try to mind and not look but lol I just had to see what it was daddy did at work every day!

Okay, I DO NOT WANT TO WIN THIS CONTEST BECAUSE I DON’T NEED GLASSES (YET) but I just wanted to share. That cool?
Worst thing I’ve done to my eyes? Two similar stories: One, I’m in an Indian restaurant in New Brunswick, and somehow rub super-hot pepper juice directly in my eye. I thought I would never see again. I was traumatized.
Then, one time, while working at Cracker Barrel, I was “marrying” the Tabascos, and as I was prying the lid off of one, Tabasco splashed right into my eye. Similar problem. Horrible.
But yeah, don’t want to win. Just wanted to share.

i’m obsessed with green things, and as such, i love green makeup.
i bought some really cheap green eye shadow, and it was an awesome colour.
only thing was, when i removed it my eyelids were a little red.
no worries, i just kept using it. until one day, i got up to put some makeup on and thought ‘oh, i’ve already done it - but why would i use pink?’
that’s when i realised that my skin was pink from the acid-like eye shadow burning my eyes….
i couldn’t wear any makeup for about 18 months after that, and it was painful for so long… now i only use decent stuff. =)

cooking is a favorite hobby of mine, and as a result, i am always getting painful ingredients in my eyes. you know…lovely things like cayenne pepper.
drinking while cooking is another favorite. one night making tequila marinated pork, i figured i would have a shot with a friend or two while waiting by the oven. after accidentally squeezing lime juice in my eye, i tried to wipe it out with a hand covered in wet salt. still the most embarrassing part was having a shot with salt and lime.

I’ve never done anything terrible to my eyes… I’m actually really careful, because I am legally blind and only have about 25% vision in my right eye. I found out when I was very young (about 4 or 5) and was constantly told to be careful and to wear sunglasses when outside to make sure my eyes were protected. I guess it’s always been something I’ve been very worried about and I can’t imagine what it would be like not to be able to see at all. As I’ve gotten older and have needed prescription glasses for my one good eye I ame really glad that I’ve protected both my eyes by wearing sunglasses and have made them a signature of mine to wear funky styles and colours.
