Picture perfect.

Contrary to popular belief, there’s more to computer art than browsing porn.

One of the pioneers in the graphic software industry is Corel, and they were kind enough to send us some of their most popular packages to try out.

Whether the photos you are editing are of you picking daisies by the shore or pole-dancing NYE, you will love the latest edition in the Paint Shop family, Paint Shop Photo X2. . It’s filled with everything from easy automatic photo fixes to precision editing tools. It even includes a built-in Learning Center to help new users get started right away - perfect for the dark room of anyone, novice to pro.

I think we would all agree there’s only one comparable industry competitor for Paint Shop Pro (which will will not name here, but this other product costs double, is harder to use, AND freezes my computer). c

Another bit of software gadgetry I find myself having lots of fun with is Corel Painter Essentials 4 (which works on PCs AND MACs!) This rocks and it’s totally easy to use: Basically, it turn your photos into paintings. Whether you’re turning a photo into a painting, or sketching and painting on a blank canvas, there’s a workspace in this package you can play with.

Finally, in my hot little hands is Corel Ulead VideoStream 11 Plus. Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus. It is video editing and DVD authoring software simple enough for even me to follow, and lets you easily create professional-looking videos, slideshows and DVDs. My favorite part? You can even create Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio tracks, and add pro-quality titles and transitions and share your movies everywhere, from iPod to DVD to YouTube!

I’m going to award one of these products to each of three readers - for your shot, tell me which one you most want, and how it newly dwelling in your computer will make life better for you or, well, the rest of us. Most convincing story wins! Deadline February 10.

    - Corel Painter Essentials 4 is the one I most want! Why? Well, who wouldn’t want to turn pictures into paintings?! Wow!! I love portraits, whether they’re drawn on Paint (sometimes it doesn’t turn out that hot), pixel portraits or hand drawn portraits. This would definitely make my life better because I would love to see how my pictures transform into paintings! It’ll let me express my creativity and have some fun on the computer. It’ll truly make my pictures look fantastic and natural and I would share it with my entire family! I would print them out, put them in picture frames or hang them around the house. In addition, I would share the pictures with the rest of the world by making it an avatar, part of an online photo album, etc. Wow, can you imagine having an avatar of yourself that’s a painting? It’ll look fabulous! ;)

Oh definitely the corel painters 4. I’m one of the few members of my family without the painters gene, although my pictures on my digital are fun and I think rather good, I’ve not been able to get a sense of truly creating something spectacular with the editing programs I’m using. My home is a gallery of family pictures good or not so hot ones. I’ve tried editing the pictures that I’m unhappy with and just not getting the results I’m looking for. I would be very happy to make a home on my PC for a program that allows me to create pictures that make me feel like maybe I do have a tiny bit of the gift the rest of myfamily takes for granted as their birthright.

I would totally love the Paint Shop Pro…here’s my little story…

I take a lot of pictures. I love pictures. If my house ever was on fire the things I would save (after family members/pets) would be my photos. They are my memories.

Back in October I started the huge process of making a photobook for my son’s first year of life. This was indeed a gigantic project because once I got all the photos together and counted them up there were…..ready for it….over 2,000. My son was only 12 months old and I already had over 2,000 pictures…OF HIM. I really couldn’t believe it. My partner said “that sounds about right, you’re always taking pictures of him.” I just didn’t realize I took that many.

So…I would totally enjoy a program that was easy to use and simple to set up. I tried photoshop once and was overwhelmed and could not figure out how to do even simple things like crop with that program. I would love something that would allow me to zip in a fix up some red eye and crop and maybe do even a few more nifty photo enhancements.

Aly, the Corel Ulead VideoStream 11 Plus just seems so cool. I kept tossing up the idea of entering this contest, and since I saw it, I keep thinking of different videos I would like to put together. I hear certain songs and picture them as background music. So alas, I had no choice but to enter. I can’t imagine being able to make DVDs with Dolby Digital surround sound. At home, we just got a new sound system…so I could really blow everyone away with some cool creations.
