Beauty Confidential
So, I’ll admit it…the life of a beauty writer doesn’t suck.
As says the awesome Nadine Haobsh (aka Jolie in NYC) in her new work, Beauty Confidential: “Imagine a life where highlights and haircuts with the world’s top experts are free, where there is an endless supply of Crème de la Mer, where you leave work at 2PM to get a massage or pedicure and your boss cheerfully tells you to have fun. Now imagine you get paid to live this life. Welcome to the world of a beauty editor.”
Nadine’s guide demystifies beauty and helps make it accessible for all women. Beauty editors are simply lucky enough to learn a few extra special tricks, and Haobsh shares them, as well as her stories and mishaps-in-the-name-of-beauty, with readers.

Some of her beauty commandments that I simply must share:
1. Never wash your hair two days in a row
2. Always wear SPF 30 sunscreen, come rain or shine, winter or summer
3. Wash your face every night before bed…even when drunk…even when tired
4. French manicures are not an option
5. Everybody looks better with a hint of bronzer or self-tanner
6. Avoid frowning—just like your mom said, your face will stick that way
7. Don’t smoke—it causes wrinkles, sallow, uneven skin, and yellow teeth. (Oh, yeah, and that whole cancer thing, too.)
8. Introduce acids into your daily routine—glycolic, salicylic, retinoic, whatever. Your skin will thank you.
9. Antioxidants are your best friend. Eat them, drink them, wear them, love them.
10. Smile. When you carry yourself beautiful, you are beautiful.

#1 is DEFINITELY NOT a universal rule as far as I am concerned. Those with fine hair or oily scalps need to shampoo daily…including myself.

Dear eye4style:
There are ways for the fine-haired, oily-scalped to not wash their hair every day. Simply dust your hair (at the roots) with powder. It’ll help asborb the extra oil. It works for absorbing excess product in your hair, too. (Hairstylists use this trick on models all the time.) Not to mention, your scalp might be producing excess oil to regulate for frequent washings. It’ll take a while for your hair to acclimate to your new training session, but eventually, your scalp should produce less oil over time. In the meantime, just remember, powder, powder, powder!

Amy, Dina - it’s funny that this comes up - I recently became acquainted with Bianco Breeze Double-Duty powder, which was formulated for exactly this reason! A sample is en route to me, and I will report back after trying it on my own fine hair.

I kind of have to agre with eye4style! I’d feel pretty gross if I didn’t wash my hair daily. Powder or no powder!
Also — what is the deal with no french manicures? They’re easily my fave manicure — one I break out for all of the specialest occasions. Very classy for attending a wedding, plus very clean/professional/groomed-looking for job interviews and the like.

Yeah, my hair gets really really oily really quick–it’s so fine it’s annoying. Maybe you should get us all samples of that powder, Aly.
Also, otherwise, what kind of powder would you use?
