Lychee Love
Seek, and ye shall find.
Last week, I embarked on a pilgrimage for the best of the lychee-infused products of the globe. Tirelessly, I tasted delicacies of all varieties.
I am happy to announce, my search is over.

Produced and bottled in Cognac, France, Lichido Liqueur is a combination of carefully aged cognac, premium vodka and the essences of lychees, guavas, and white peaches.
Let me count all the things I love about Lichido. It is a lychee martini in a bottle (not quite, but contains a lot of what makes lychee martinis special). It - despite what you may expect - is a very eye-pleasing shade of pink. It is sweet, yes - but not in a candy sweet way - but rather a refreshing fruity dessert-beverage way that will make both your nose and taste buds very happy. I drank it straight up that first night, and I immediately tasted both the peach and the lychee. These tropical tastes when accompanied by the cognac’s complex flavors and followed by vodka’s unmistakable warming sensation is quite pleasing indeed.
Check out just a few yummy cocktails you can make out of Lichido (if you don’t finish the bottle off on the rocks, that is!):
Lichitini
1 1/2 oz. Lichido Liqueur
1 1/2 oz. Vodka
One pitted Lychee
Razzle Dazzle
1 1/2 oz Vanilla Vodka
1 1/2 oz Lichido Liqueur
3 oz Raspberry Puree
Splash of Fresh Lime Juice
I love Lichido…I love it so much that I may not need to visit my favorite happy-hour lychee martini spot for a few weeks. (Why go to the mountain when it comes to you?) And one of you will feel a little of my happiness, because we are giving one bottle away!
Here’s a fun game for you - make up your own planned cocktail for your Lichido (and for extra points, name it!). Can be a spin on an old favorite or something new and exotic. The one that sounds the yummiest wins the bottle! Deadline to enter is Saturday, September 8th.

Want… have collection of liquors. Oh, and did I mention that I’m a bartender who has quite a talent for making drinks?
Let’s go for a new variation on an old favorite: the mojito. I will call it the Aly-land Mojito.
Starting with the traditional muddled limes and mint. Next, 1 and 1/2 oz light rum, 3/4 oz Lichido, fill with mint mineral water.
Something more flavorful, The Blue Aly.
Also rum based, (but a variation of another of my most recently made-up drinks, the Blue Gamer). 1 oz light rum, 1/2 Lichido, 1/2 oz Hypnotiq, 1/4 oz vanilla vodka. Fill with the Rachel signature mixer, mint mineral water.
I swear I will make these for all my friends if I win this liquor.

Being that I make a living off of making drinks (being a bartender is the best job ever), this contest just SCREAMS for me to enter. So let’s see, this is what I’ve come up with thus far:
The Aly-licious Cranberry Lychee
1 1/2 oz Bacardi Limon Rum
1 1/2 oz Lichido Liqueur
Fill glass with cranberry juice.
Add a splash of fresh lemon juice and garnish with lemon on the side.
The Aly-politan
1 1/2 oz Lichido Liqeur
1 oz Rosie’s Lime Juice
1/2 oz triple sec or Cointreau
3 1/2 oz cranberry juice
Mix ingredients in a mixer with ice. Strain into a glass that has sugar on the rim. Garnish with a fresh lime twist.
The Tropical Aly
1 1/2 oz Malibu Mango flavored rum
1 1/2 oz Lichido Liqeur
Splash of grenadine
Fill glass with pineapple orange juice. Garnish with fresh pineapple wedge or orange peel.
Yummmmmy, now I really want to try some of these! Hehehe.

I have two tasty drink ideas:
1. The Lichido Razikaze
(mix in shaker with ice)
2 oz Lichido Liqueur
1 oz Triple Sec
1 oz Chambord or raspberry liqueur
splash of lime juice (opt.)
(pour in martini glass over two stoned lychees)
2. Frozen Lichido Daiquiri
1 cup frozen peaches
1/4 cup lime juice
2-3 oz Lichido Liqueur
1 oz peach scnapps
1/2 oz apricot brandy
Blend together in blender…slowly add ice until thick but pourable. (about 1 cup or so)
Serve in glass with lime twist on rim.
ENJOY!

I love the bottle and it would make a great addition to my personal bar.
As far as a drink I have be honest, it sounds so yummy I would drink it straight on the rocks and call it “Straight Lychee”

Okay–so I’m NOT a bartender and the only drink I ever made up before was called “Trouble” and involved a 20 oz Solo cup Filled at least halfway with Malibu, Bacardi Razz, and 99 Bananas, then some ice added, and topped off with OJ (hence the name… I don’t know how many I drank at that Memorial Day party, but I sure did get myself into “trouble” hahahahahahaha. At least it was intended trouble, right?), but I shall attempt this one.
Lychee Mimosa
3 ounces Lichido Liqueur
2 ounces Sparkling Rosé or White Wine
Pitted Lychee
Ambrosé (Drink of the Gods, not Food of the Gods
)
2 oz Lichido Liqueur
1 oz Pama Liqueur
1 oz Pomegranate Juice
1 1/2 oz Pineapple Juice
Serve in a Highball glass over ice, garnish with a pitted Lychee or a maraschino cherry. May substitute Grapefruit juice for Pineapple juice if a tarter taste is desired.
Vixen’s Kiss
1 1/4 oz Lichido Liqueur
3/4 oz Chambord
Splash Cranberry Juice
Strain into rocks glass.
Alytini
1 1/2 oz Lichido Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Pama Liqueur
Pitted lychee
You know… if they made an acai liqueur, you could substitute that for the Pama.

I wanted to do a fun twist on Absinthe, too, called ALYsinthe. You know, fire, sugar cubes and the like, but, due to the higher sugar content of Lichido, I didn’t think it’d be as tasty.

Island Crush
2 oz. Lichido Liqueur
1 1/2 oz. Citron Vodka
2 oz. pink grapefruit juice
Pour over crushed ice and serve with wedge of lime.
