Material Girl (Prom minus six days.)

My new friend, designer Derek De Vette says: “A few years ago, I was invited to a grown-up retro-80s party in Beverly Hills. There were major A-list stars there and everyone went all out. Nobody really went vintage. …What I saw the most of was a lot of Madonna outfits circa the Like a Virgin album cover—black bustier and lace skirts, hair up with ribbon tied, dark eyeliner, big earrings, lots of bangle bracelets, dark cut-off tights or leggings with white socks and ankle boots! The other women wore tight black dresses (ala Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love video) with black nylons, high heels and sported MAJOR hair spray and eyeliner. Everyone was in the complete spirit of play about the entire evening and had a blast.”

Derek (www.thomasdevette.com) knows his stuff.

When in Rome…

Another new (and possibly best) friend, Jackie from Squeaky Wheel Promotions is loaning me attire that is quintessentially occasion-appropriate in the wake of Derek’s sage advice and my own historic cultural leanings. It is sailing the skies as we speak. More info to come…
