From the Darkness, A Bright Light Emerges

I have found Dr. McDreamy, and he ain’t on Gray’s Anatomy — he’s conveniently located on the Upper East Side of NYC, and since crossing paths with him, my pearly gates are gleaming as they never have before.

For those of you who have not been following my long and harrowing tales of teeth woe, it has been a sad tale of dashed hopes, missed opportunities, and painful regret. My first attempt at whitening at another location was met with heartbreak, to be followed by weeks of reflection and contemplation. (And getting some cavities filled.)

Intent to get right back astride that horse (prom is coming up, after all), I paid a visit to the New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry and visited with Dr. Jeff Golub-Evans who the bible of style culture, Vogue, cited as the “guru of cosmetic dentistry”.

When Vogue speaks, I listen.

Dr. Golub-Evans is the pioneer of a technique called QuickWhite™, which whitens teeth in about twenty minutes — less time than it takes for a manicure. The doctor uses a “whitening cocktail” that contains diamond dust to pre-cleanse and bleach teeth before sending you off on a journey under the Zoom2 lamp (military-strength amorphous calcium phosphate-1 in addition to hydrogen peroxide) and it gets pretty instant results.

As with all my other parts, my teeth have issues — among them, too much fluoride. (Check out the “before” picture below, you will notice my teeth have more shades than your average bad highlight job.) This means:

A - A madman broke into my home and sprayed noxious gases in my mouth.

B - I had lots of fevers as a kid. (My mother assures me it’s B.)

That said, I’m not the ideal candidate for whitening - I’ll get whiter, but it can’t necessarily make all the colors of the rainbow match. It seems to have come close though! Check out how much lighter my teeth are, after just one visit:

I am whiter, brighter, and smitten - so much so that I’m visiting Dr. Golub-Evans again in a few weeks. We’re going to re-make my smile, one bite at a time.
